Unless you have been hiding under a rock for a year, you should know what a selfie is by now. The term has been around for quite a while, but over the past year it has escaped the vocabulary of social media junkies and has penetrated pop culture in a gigantic way.
Apps are designed specifically for selfie-taking; phone accessories are being designed to help make it easier to snap a selfie; a selfie themed TV show is in the works; heck, they even teach classes now on how to take a better selfie.
People from 2 to 92 are going crazy taking pictures of themselves and then posting them everywhere on social media for their poor friends to give an obligatory like to. Seriously, I was at the train station yesterday and a couple behind me, easily in their 70's, snapped a pic with their phone and then told their senior friends that they wanted a selfie of their trip.
So how crazy is this selfie phenomenon? Here are some of the most interesting (and scary) selfie statistics I've stumbled across in my stat-seeking travels. Enjoy!
